Chin Augmentation in Dallas, TX

About Chin Augmentation

Mentoplasty (known as chin augmentation) is a common aesthetic treatment that recontours the chin and lower face for men and women who have a small and recessed chin, or one they believe is too prominent. Many times when a chin is recessed and sunken in, it can create an unappealing profile. A number of techniques can be performed to improve the appearance of the chin, but one of the most popular is inserting an implant to create a stronger jawline and a more defined profile. Plastic surgeons Drs. David G. Genecov, Carlos Raul Barceló and Dr. Huay-Zong Law perform several alternatives to consider for augmenting the chin. Aside from implants, which are made in a number of sizes and shapes, nonsurgical procedures such as injectable fillers or Kybella can be used to reshape the chin. For chins that are very large, genioplasty may be considered. This treatment decreases the amount of bone to reshape the chin and jaw to a more appealing size. Ideal Candidates

Mentoplasty is a procedure for both women and men. If you are displeased by the size and shape of your chin, and also feel self-conscious about the weak profile it creates, this treatment can redefine the lower area of your facial structure. It is also common for some of our patients to blend rhinoplasty with their chin augmentation treatment. This combination of facial treatments offers a great opportunity for the aspects of the face to be more balanced.

Surgical Technique

During chin enhancement surgery, general anesthesia is used, or in some cases, another form of anesthesia such as IV sedation. An incision is made beneath the chin. Through this incision, a groove or pocket is created to secure the implant in position, which includes reducing some of the tissue, cartilage, and bone. The implant is moved through the incision and positioned over the bone, just below the bottom lip. In some cases, the incision can also be made inside the lower lip where it meets the gumline. Both types of incisions help to hide scars. Small stitches are used to close the incisions and the bottom portion of the face will be wrapped with medical garments.
